This first novel by Sæunn Gísladóttir, takes place in a no certain town in the north of Iceland at the time of Covid but also in the mid twentieth century. Sóley is an Icelandic metropolitan, a conductor of an orchestra in Leipzig that must return home to Iceland at the time of Covid. The other woman is the widow Sigríður who is has to face a male dominated society of her hometown and run a store she had originally planned to run with her husband.
