Júlíana Jónsdóttir – Ljóðmæli: Stúlka & Hagalagðar

Júlían Jónsdóttir from Akureyjar was the first woman author to get published in Iceland. It was a book of poems simply called Stúlka (Girl) and it was published in 1876. Years later another book of poetry appeared by Júlíana who by that time was an old woman and moved west to North America. That book was called Hagalagðar. 

This book contains both books in celebration of the one hundredth and fifty anniversary of the first book. The poems are as relevant as when they first appeared. Sharp, witty and written with a strong sense of endurance by a woman who did not enjoy any education and was a working class woman all her life.
