The Icelandic sculptor Guðmundur Elíasson (1925 - 1998) was in his younger age considered one of the most promising artists of the nation. He studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris under the guidance of Ossip Zadkine. His work were considered original, bold and he himself a pioneer in Icelandic art.
He returned to Iceland 1953 and gradually withdrew from the Icelandic art scene at the time and did not take part in exhibitions. He also destroyed most of his work leaving only photographs to capture his art.
These photographs are the main source behind this book by Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson. It is a timely homage to the work of this fascinating and almost forgotten Icelandic artist.
