Willard Fiske (1831 –1904) was a passionate book collector and smitten with Iceland and most things Icelandic. Grímsey, the small island north of Iceland, he was very fond of f. ex. He collected rare books from Iceland and a number of Icelanders working for him and probing for Icelandic books. He gave the Cornell University where he was a professor and librarian his library.
