Mzungu is a phrase used in Eastern Africa to describe those that wander aimlessly. It often was used to describe European settlers and explorers in the eighteenth century. Now it is chiefly used to describe western foreigners.
The main character in this novel by Þórunn Rakel Gylfadóttir and co-written by Simon Okoth Aora is Hulda who is full of excitement as she settles into her work at a center for orphans in Kenya. She is however soon pulled into an atmosphere increasingly out of her control.
