The princess Mábil the strong from Valland is a great and outstanding knight. She performs heroic feats in battle and often comes up with unusual means to conquer her nemesis, the queen Madea of Greece. She is also courageous in her defense of her sister against men wanting to marry her and so making a claim for the throne.
Þrúður Þorsteinsdóttir was the wife of a bishop in Hólar in the north of Iceland and she asked Árni Magnússon to search for manuscripts containing the rhymes of Mábil the strong. They have a strong sexual undertone and so could hardly be considered very politically correct by the Christian authorities at the time.
This book contains the rhymes in modern Icelandic as well as the original language.
