Jón Helgason (1899 - 1986) was an Icelandic professor in Old Nordic literature and head of the Arna Magnússon Institute in Copenhagen for many years. He published works on Icelandic history and folk culture and was a much loved poet and published two books of poems. The first one Úr landsuðri og fleiri kvæði (1939) is republished here with an epilogue by Icelandic author Bergsveinn Birgison.
