In the beginning of this novel Sigríður Hagalín Björnsdóttir, a woman leads a horse carrying an old man in the autumn of 1479. The man is the former court poet of Ólöf the rich and he is going to the monastery at Reynistaðir to die. First however he must write the story, the true story of how the English murdered Björn Þorleifsson, the governor of the Danish king in Iceland and the husband of Ólöf. This murder ignited a violent conflict in Icelandic history that would have repercussions over centuries.
This novel is an independent sequel to the novel Hamingja þessa heims (2022).
